Collector's editions are infamous for being inconsistent in quality. From shoddy craft like ARKHAM ASYLUM's CE to loving fan-service like the ALAN WAKE CE, you'd better have a good idea of what you're getting before you shell out the extra cash. Likewise, Konami's METAL GEAR SOLID offerings can be a little uneven. The SUBSISTENCE CE was great, and fetches a pretty penny, but the GUNS OF THE PATRIOTS CE was much more run-of-the-mill.
The PEACE WALKER CE consists of a high-quality paper artbook and a display box. The artbook is very stylish and has some great sketches of character design and a cast fold-out, and the box is... Well, it's a box.
When I picked up the Collector's Edition, it was ten bucks more than the SE at my local Gamestop. At that price, this CE is absolutely worth it. Now, less than a month later, the price has doubled. If you're going to play this game, just buy the standard edition. If you're going to store it in your closet and wait for it to appreciate in value, buy the Collector's Edition.
Whichever route you end up on, I hope you enjoy Peace Walker.
