(More customer reviews)I decided to dig up my old copy of Strike Commander in hopes the badly damaged CD still worked, it did.CD's were made of better quality materials(and were not needed to run the game)The "emulator software" amazon refers to is DOS box I recommend the latest editon from Source Forge's website, though it still has problems with this one game. You can get a standard joystick to work unlike real DOS mode, but not the rudders or the fancy FSPro or Thrustmaster.I understand these third party unilities are always improving what they do though, so it's only a matter of time.
not only is this the most realistic flight sim you'll ever get your hands on(if you can after all this time) it has a great back story and dialogue. The missions can be chosen to serveral different paths this is truely a hybrid game.Graphic adventure/flight sim.You play the part of a leutenant "Strike" Commander whose mentor died in a air dog fight and you must then take the role of full time Commander.the early stages of the game are "Strike" Commaner Stern showing you the ropes of the business end as well as flight leader end of being in charge afterwards, its' up to you to run the base(and see that it keeps running) The real object is to keep from going bankrupt and to keep your planes from crashing(it costs money to fix 'em).Thier is huge incentive to buy certain ordinence over others(unlike the simplistic modern titles) and the flight sim side is mostly guess work, and you need to think about your heading just as in a real plane, no big green arrow telling you to "go this way next" as in most of the dumbed down modern games. In Strke Comander you can change your way point heading at any time for a bombing run that's accruate or just use the instruments and not change it at all. This game is better than wing commander as elabroate as privateer(1) though the flight sim is better than both.
